NEWMED's DOSER Named Product of the Year
Best Health Related Device
Newton, MA - July 31, 1997 - NEWMED Corporation today announced that the DOSER has been awarded
the distinguished 1996 Product of the Year Award by the Australian Journal of Pharmacy. The award was in the Best
Health Related Device category.
The DOSER, tracks the use of medication taken from a Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) as the inhaler
is used normally. It is the first and only product of its kind. With its self-contained microcomputer, the DOSER
counts and displays the number of inhalations remaining in the MDI, and displays the number of inhalations taken
in the current day. It also stores the number of inhalations taken in each of the last 30 days in its memory and
alerts the user when the MDI is nearly empty. With its self-contained battery, the DOSER lasts a full year.
NEWMED's Australian distributor, Allersearch, submitted the application for the award. Janet
Morey, National Marketing Manager, Allersearch, said, "The award is timely with pharmacists, GP's and people
with asthma beginning to recognize the very real benefits of good asthma management. Allersearch believes there
is enormous potential for the DOSER to help people with asthma better manage their condition and we're delighted
to have received official recognition of this from the Australian Journal of Pharmacy." The DOSER has been
available in Australia since the fourth quarter of 1996. NEWMED began marketing the DOSER to retail pharmacies
in the United States in the second quarter of 1997.
